AWS D1.1 work is governed by project documents, applicable code provisions and qualified procedures—not by a process name alone. The notes below explain why MIG/MAG, self-shielded flux-core and Stick/SMAW each require their own consumable, variable and acceptance controls on structural steel.
Gas metal arc welding on structural carbon steel requires more than selecting solid wire and C25 gas. Transfer mode, wire classification, diameter, polarity, voltage, travel speed, preheat and permitted positions must agree with the applicable welding procedure. Stable shielding and suitable surface preparation are essential, while project inspection and acceptance remain separate from ordinary mobile repair service.
Understand our MIG/MAG scope →Self-shielded flux-cored wires have manufacturer-specific classifications, polarity requirements, thickness ranges and position limits. A wire that performs well for one field repair is not automatically acceptable for a code-governed structural joint. Procedure qualification or prequalification, welder qualification, joint details, preheat, slag removal and inspection requirements must all be established by the responsible project parties.
Understand our flux-core scope →For shielded metal arc welding, electrode classification, low-hydrogen handling where required, diameter, current, polarity and storage can affect code compliance. The base-metal group, joint configuration, position and thickness also control the permitted procedure. Palm Beach Welding does not represent general mobile repair work as D1.1-qualified structural welding unless the specific project documentation and qualifications are agreed in writing.
